Revealing their side of story for the first time, Disney executives felt their future theme park expansions were in jeopardy at the height of the company’s battle with DeSantis and the Florida GOP.

The depositions come from a civil lawsuit related to the Disney-DeSantis conflict and offer new insight on the infamous feud.

This article gives some new info on what was going on behind closed doors during this feud. Highlights include:

  • Disney hired a law firm favored by the DeSantis administration to help fight him
  • The law firm didn’t want anyone to know they were helping Disney because they were worried about retaliation from DeSantis
  • The outgoing Reedy Creek board knew very little about the contracts they signed that gave control over to Disney
  • The DeSantis administration knew about the contracts in advance
  • Disney delayed expansion of Magic Kingdom due to the uncertainty of the new board

All of this because Disney put out the most mild statement about the “Don’t Say Gay” law, and DeSantis wanted to lean into culture war for his absolutely futile attempt at running for president.
